Deepdene Interior Design
Three-story, multi-generation contemporary home
This Deepdene residence is a three-storey new build designed for a large multi-generational family, positioned on a corner block in the breakaway suburb of Balwyn. The interior direction combines classical detailing with subtle French Provincial influences, expressed through parquetry flooring, high ceilings and stone finishes. The home features chandeliers, abundant natural light, six bedrooms, multiple living areas, a theatre room and an alfresco zone with a pool. Custom cabinetry, curated materials and a consistent, elegant palette support practical family living across all levels.
Contact Lewisham InteriorsDeepdene Interior Design Project Brief
The client wanted a functional, high-quality home that could comfortably support a large multi-generational family across three levels. They required six bedrooms, each with an ensuite and walk-in robe, along with multiple living zones that balanced privacy and shared connection. A lift and seating in showers were essential for elderly parents, and the family requested an open-plan ground floor that flowed directly to the alfresco area and pool.
They also wanted dedicated lifestyle spaces, including a fully fitted theatre room and cellar on the basement level. Lewisham Interiors was engaged to shape the room layouts, design all kitchens and bathrooms, create custom cabinetry throughout and fully furnish the residence. The brief centred on timeless finishes, consistency between formal and informal spaces and a level of detail that would elevate the property’s market position.

Our design direction
Materiality and proportion guided the design response, with classical detailing used to create continuity across all three levels. High ceilings, parquetry flooring, stone finishes and generous chandeliers formed a strong foundation for the interior. The palette was developed to feel warm and balanced, and tailored furnishings and thoughtful lighting were introduced to enhance the flow between formal and informal areas and support family living.
Custom cabinetry was designed for every room and scaled to suit the architecture, including kitchen storage, vanities, walk-in robes and built-in seating. Window furnishings were selected to soften the interior and control natural light across the generous layouts. The artwork was curated to add character and rhythm while complementing the home’s classical direction.
Key features included:
- Custom kitchen and bathroom design with stone finishes
- Parquetry flooring and classical detailing
- Six bedrooms with walk-in robes and ensuites
- Lift access across all levels
- Furnishings scaled to suit the home’s proportions
- Window treatments designed for natural light control
- Dedicated theatre room and cellar
- Elegant lighting with chandeliers and ambient layers
- Curated artwork installed throughout
Project constraints and solutions
The primary challenge was the interconnected layout of the formal living, informal living and dining areas, all visible upon entry. Any mismatch in tone or finish would have disrupted the flow of the ground floor. Lewisham addressed this by elevating informal spaces with quality materials, tailored lighting and custom furniture to strengthen continuity across the main rooms.
