Organic luxury designed for relaxed family living
|
Positioned amongst sweeping green hills, open farmland and eucalypts, this Chirnside Park home draws heavily from the surrounding Victorian landscape. Built for a family of four who regularly host extended family and long-stay guests, the home was designed as a contemporary country retreat that balances architectural scale with warmth and restraint. Generous entertaining spaces sit alongside a calm, layered interior palette, reflecting the growing demand for refined family homes throughout Chirnside Park. Warm tones, natural timbers, linen drapery and tactile finishes soften the scale of the architecture, creating interiors that feel elevated yet inviting. |
“Entertaining and connection were at the centre of every decision. We wanted the home to feel beautiful and impressive, but also relaxed enough for everyday family life.”

Chirnside Park Interior Design Project Brief
The brief centred around creating a home suited to large-scale entertaining while remaining practical for daily family life. Indoor and outdoor spaces needed to feel connected, generous and welcoming, with a strong emphasis on natural light and symmetry throughout the home.
The clients wanted the open-plan kitchen and living area to accommodate gatherings of 20 guests or more, while the rear alfresco needed to function as an extension of the interiors with a BBQ and outdoor fireplace. Central courtyards were also requested to strengthen the connection between the home and the surrounding landscape.
As recognised luxury designers, Lewisham Interiors was engaged to refine the original architectural plans and develop a design direction aligned with the home’s contemporary organic luxury aesthetic.

Our design direction
Lewisham Interiors focused on contemporary organic luxury, pairing refined detailing with natural materials and a restrained palette. Soft off-white tones, light timber finishes and full-height linen sheers were layered throughout the home to create warmth and cohesion. Furniture and furnishings were selected for their texture, softness and proportion, reinforcing the home’s relaxed sophistication.
The main living and kitchen area became the centrepiece of the home, featuring cathedral ceilings, expansive glazing and spatial planning designed to support entertaining and quieter family living. Courtyard spaces positioned throughout the home draw natural light, and landscape views deeper into the interiors.
Lewisham Interiors also reworked several architectural elements to improve alignment and visual impact, particularly within the entry sequence and adjoining open-plan spaces.
Key features included:
- Open-plan living and entertaining zones
- Dining space designed to accommodate 20+ guests
- Outdoor alfresco with BBQ area and fireplace overlooking a lake
- Multiple central courtyards integrated into the floor plan
- Light natural timber finishes throughout
- Layered linen sheers and organic textiles
- Cathedral ceilings within the main living zone
- Bespoke kitchen redesign with integrated cabinetry solutions
Project constraints and solutions
Several architectural and structural challenges emerged throughout the build, particularly within the kitchen and central living areas. The kitchen back wall was originally designed around two rear windows that lacked symmetry, requiring adjustments to create a more balanced composition. During construction, a structural column intended to sit within the exterior wall was repositioned directly through the centre of the planned cabinetry layout, requiring a complete redesign of the joinery to restore visual balance.
The original architectural plans also created an awkward transition between the entry foyer and the cathedral-ceiling living zone, diminishing the impact of the home’s primary feature space. Lewisham Interiors reconfigured adjoining walls and room proportions to strengthen symmetry and improve the arrival experience.
